What is a Penny Farthing?

A penny farthing, also known as a “high wheel”, is an early type of bicycle with a large front wheel. Popular in the 1870’s and 1880’s, the penny farthing adds vintage charm to any event.

What does a penny farthing artist need?

These artists require a reasonably straight, level path.

    • Penny Farthing works best as ride-around atmosphere or photo op.
    • Audience members or event goers may not ride the penny farthing.
    • These performers are appropriate for all audiences.
    • Penny Farthing sets are typically 15-20 minutes long, with at least 15 minutes between sets.
    • Costumes are typically vintage or steampunk, but other costumes are certainly possible so long as they do not interfere with vision or mobility.
